Every year, Sigma Chi chapters across the country compete in Derby Days, raising money for the Huntsman Cancer Institute. At UCLA, our Derby Days involves various fundraising activities on and around campus over the course of a week. Our chapter works with local business sponsors and the University to put together multiple events. One-hundred percent of proceeds go towards supporting cancer research. The week culminates in a grand competition and celebration of Derby Days and the fight to end cancer.

HUNTSMAN CANCER INSTITUTE

Founded by John Huntsman (University of Pennsylvania 1959), the Huntsman Cancer Institute is dedicated to finding the causes of cancer, developing new and better treatments, and preventing people from ever developing cancer. Huntsman founded HCI to focus on understanding cancer from its very beginnings and to translate this knowledge into safer and more effective treatments. HCI was chosen as Sigma Chi's preferred philanthropic partner because many Sigs and their families have been directly affected by cancer, the second-leading cause of death in the United States. The Delta Eta chapter is proud to support this great organization with our philanthropic efforts.

PHILANTHROPIC PARTICIPATION IN UCLA COMMUNITY

Our chapter's philanthropic efforts are not restricted to our own events. We aim to participate in a wide range of philanthropy events with other organizations on campus like UCLA's sororities. Our brothers frequently form teams to compete or participate in other challenges/tournaments/competitions supporting a variety of charitable efforts.
